Agree on the unit you are counting

“Twenty windows” can mean openings, individual panes or sets of glass with very different labor requirements. Define the unit your business uses and keep it consistent between the site survey, estimate and job instructions.

Record interior and exterior work separately. A customer may expect both even when the enquiry only mentions the front of the property. Ask about screens, tracks, frames and doors with glass rather than leaving “full clean” open to interpretation.

Check the property condition and access through an appropriate survey. Photos can help organize questions, but they may not show every surface or obstacle. Mark anything that still needs verification instead of presenting an assumption as a confirmed count.

This is a business scoping worksheet, not guidance for working at height or selecting equipment. Access and work methods need assessment by appropriately trained people using your required procedures.

For entry and preparation details, use the property-access checklist. Confirm whether furniture, screens or obstacles need attention before the appointment.

Worked example: exterior package with an optional interior

A fictional survey identifies 20 standard openings under the business’s defined counting method. Exterior glass is quoted at $240. Screen cleaning is a separate $60 service, and interior glass is an optional $180. Exterior glass plus screens totals $300 before applicable tax; including the interior brings the package to $480.

These are illustrative figures, not market rates. Price your own work using verified scope, labor, travel, equipment and overhead. See the job costing worksheet before treating another business’s price as your target.

The customer selects the $300 package. The job instructions specify exterior glass and screens, with interior glass and tracks excluded. If the customer asks for interior work at arrival, the crew requests approval of the revised scope and price before adding it.

A specific scope also makes a cheaper-quote comparison easier: compare the included tasks rather than the headline window count alone.

Confirm what the appointment includes

Original customer scope message

Hi [name], our proposal covers [defined quantity and areas] for [interior/exterior service], including [selected additional tasks]. It excludes [specific items]. The total is [amount and tax treatment]. Before the visit, please arrange [confirmed access/preparation]. We will contact you before proceeding if the verified count, condition or requested scope differs from this proposal.

Replace every placeholder with the surveyed facts. Avoid promising that every stain will disappear or that any unassessed surface can be cleaned. If a result is uncertain, explain what your proposal actually includes and what requires a separate review.

After approval, give the crew the accepted package, not every option the customer considered. Record any change with the job and review what was completed before invoicing.

narra’s window-cleaning workflow connects the quote, property, visit and invoice. It does not provide a dedicated pane-counting calculator or determine a safe access method.

Frequently asked questions

Should I price by pane or window?

Use a unit your business can define and survey consistently. Explain that unit on the estimate so the customer and crew understand the included quantity rather than relying on an ambiguous window count.

Are screens and tracks automatically included?

No. State which extra tasks are included, optional or excluded. A customer may assume they are part of a full clean unless the proposal describes the package clearly.

Can I give a firm quote from photos?

Photos can support intake, but verify any missing count, condition or access information before making a firm commitment. Clearly identify assumptions and arrange a survey when the job needs one.

Does narra calculate window-cleaning prices?

No dedicated window or pane calculator is claimed. The business sets the scope and prices, then uses the connected quote, job, visit and invoice records to organize the agreed work.
